Beyond the Touchline
What started as a simple offer to photograph a football match has grown into a passion for supporting grassroots football. Through trust, consistency and a genuine love for the game, I've built strong relationships with clubs, helping them showcase every aspect of football, from matchdays and player signings to community events and club milestones.
What started as a simple offer to photograph a football match quickly became something much bigger than I ever expected. Over the years, I've built genuine relationships with clubs, players, coaches and volunteers through trust, consistency and a shared passion for the game.
From the very beginning, I've always believed that being a club photographer is about more than taking pictures. It's about becoming part of the club's journey. Matchdays aren't just about capturing goals and celebrations, they're about understanding the people behind the badge, documenting the moments that matter and telling a story that everyone connected to the club can look back on with pride.
My background wasn't originally in football. I started in rugby before making the transition to grassroots football. That journey taught me how to adapt, anticipate moments and understand the rhythm of the game. Every season has helped me develop my eye for football, knowing where emotion builds, how matches unfold and where the stories are both on and off the pitch.
One of the biggest privileges of club photography is earning trust. Whether it's photographing in the changing room before kick-off, capturing the emotions after the final whistle or documenting moments supporters never usually see, those images only happen because of the relationships built over time. That trust allows me to tell authentic stories that go far beyond the ninety minutes on the pitch.
Working closely with grassroots clubs has also given me the opportunity to contribute to local newspapers, providing not only photography but a genuine insight into the communities that make grassroots football so special. My aim has never been simply to report a result, but to tell the full story behind it.
The greatest reward, though, has been the people. Football introduces you to players, coaches, volunteers, committee members and supporters who all share the same passion. Many of those relationships have grown into lasting friendships, and that's something I value just as much as the photographs themselves.
People often talk about reaching the highest levels of the game, but grassroots football offers something unique. It's built on volunteers, local communities and people who give everything for the badge. That sense of belonging, trust and togetherness is what makes grassroots football so special, and it's exactly what I aim to capture every time I pick up a camera.
Photography has given me far more than a portfolio. It has given me purpose, lifelong friendships and the privilege of telling the stories of clubs and communities that deserve to be remembered.
